For me Lost in Translation is great because of the mood, atmosphere, universe it creates. This tiny American enclave (consisting of the two main protagonists) in a very foreign country. The other Americans around don't really seem to be in the same state of mind at all. Bill Murray's character (Bob) is basically rethinking his life, while Scarlett Johansson's character (Charlotte) is doing the same. The latter has always been my biggest problem with this movie. The relationship between Charlotte and her boyfriend just never seemed credible in any way or form. I know a lot of people spend a lot of time thinking or talking about the age difference between the two or what Charlotte tells Bob at the end of the movie. For me these things are more or less irrelevant. In fact I don't think the movie would lose anything had Charlotte been played by an older woman. On the other hand it could have gained some credibility maybe, but I guess they wanted to go for the young and naive girl meets the old and experienced guy. Highly recommended movie. |

I like Mr. Murray alot in these kind of movies... [Referring to Broken Flowers] The slow tempo of the movie is great, it really brings out the awkwardness in strange situations. The story too is very good, a totally different way of telling af "love story". Scarlett Johansson also does a very good job in this movie and the 'play' between Murray's and Johansson's characters are brilliant. If you wanna watch a good movie, that girl- or boy friend company material, you should pick this... A lot of good laughs, great acting and a smooth story. Well bad guys can't learn much from this movie, except maybe to love every one and do what makes you happy... 8 og 10 for this genius piece of comedy. - Peter |

Slow movie with very little plot. The quirk of the movie should be the sexual tension between Bob and Charlotte, but you constantly curl your toes and hope she won't sleep with the old guy. On the other hand, it is one of Bill Murray's best performances in my opinion. Lastly, I think the movie is a bit degrading of the Japanese people. |
