A young boy is send on a notorious ship broadcasting pirate radio in the North Sea by his mother to learn how to be a man, and maybe something more. In the same time, the prime minister of the United Kingdom is trying to shut down the illegal yet popular radio station.

The plot is fairly simple and somewhat based on actual event. The way it describes the "everyday life" on the boat is brilliant, and something I think they could have done even more of that.
The young boy's quest is entertaining and the goal seems to shift a few times during the movie. This is skilfully done.
The whole story is to some extend quite believable and you actually start looking forward to the various radio shows as the movie progresses.

The characters in the movie are well casted and their performance are superb. I have always been a fan og Bill Nighy, and even though he has a minor role in this movie, you really sense his absolutely amazing talent. I have never really liked Philip Seymour Hoffman, but in this movie I actually started to.

Needless to say, the movie is filled with a wide range of 1060s rock music. Not only does it fit the plot, but it also adds an extra feel to the movie. This is well done.
At the end of the movie, you get some painful flashbacks to the movie Titanic. This is nothing spectacular, but it is drawn out jus a bit too much for my taste.

As this is both a love story, a history lesson and to some extend also a movie about the rock and roll life, you could watch this movie with you girlfriend, your parents and your friends. It would fit them all and it is worth the time spend.

What makes this movie good is the acting, the music and the camaraderie on the boat. What pulls it down is the weak love story and the drawn out ending.
