I have to agree with Buchardt. This is not just a silly romantic comedy. It has comedy and romance, but it still manages to pull of som quite good drama as well.

Steve Carell is brilliant. Normally he is just this goofy character, but at times in this movie he also shows some serious angles. He does it very well.
For some reason I never really liked Julianne Moore. She is a good actor and very respected for her performance in general, and even in this movie, she does a good job.
Kevin Bacon is the perfect bastard, and he plays that part fully in this movie.

Watch this movie with a date or your significant other. It will give you a tiny bit of perspective on handling challenges in relationships and on getting old(er).
I would not recommend this movie to a younger crowd. I think it is important, that you have reached a certain state in your life before you really can appreciate this movie.

Expected this to be yet another romantic comedy... It wasn't! Actually when I had to decide on the genre it hit me that this is romantic yes, comedy yes... but also very dramatic and not very straight forward. The twists and turns of the plot makes it stands out like a VERY good comedy. Ryan Gosling has a fantastic part... Even though the end message of the movie is soooooo Hollywood, it told in a great way.
