I decided to watch this again, because I read Niels' review and couldn't remember it to be that "bad". And as you can see I enjoyed a bit more than Niels =)

What kind of impressed med was how well the special effects were made. 13 years later they still worked great for me, not many special effects movies from the 90's does that.

The setting of the movie is a far out future society where earth/human kind is threatened by evil bugs from outer space, but since the movie does NOT take it self very serious this plot actually works out quit alright.

The worst thing in the movie is the acting, and this being especially the combat sequences. The way the guns are waved around and the way they choose to defend them self and others just doesn't make much sense.

But yeah still worth watching in 2010!

The human race is being threatened by an entire civilization of insect. The story is about a group of youths enlisting in the military to defend humanity and to kill bugs.

The plot is classic alien story where humans an aliens (bugs) fights for territory in space. We follow the progression of the main group of soldiers as they are send into battle. Along the way there is a couple of minor fights within the group and the whole story obviously is build up around a boy who is in love with a girl. So nothing new, nothing fancy - just plain B-grade sci-fi.

The acting is quite poor, but with a plot like this, I guess they haven't had a lot to work with in their characters anyway. The casting is acceptable, if you consider the genre and have low expectations.

I saw the movie when it came out in Denmark in 1998. Back then it was quite an impressive movie with fantastic special effects. Since then, it has been aired on TV a couple of times, and the last time I saw it, it was on Blue-Ray. With this format, you really get to see all the special effects up close and in detail, and with todays standards it might not be impressive but still pretty good for a sci-fi movie. For me, the effects were the only reason I choose to see it one more time.

I was told, that the movie has a wide range of references to other sci-fi and action movies, but I guess my range of reference just isn't big enough to cover that. I hope that someday someone would explain them to me.

My recommendations for this movie is obviously sci-fi and alien fans, as the plot is thin and action below average but the effects quite good. If you enjoy being drenched in blood and gore in every color of the rainbow, this movie just might be something for you.
