Well… it is a WWII movie with a tactical team on a mission, spiced up with a touch of the occult. This should have been right up my alley, but for some reason I was not completely hooked. I am not entirely sure why. The story was good and the plot took a few expected turns for the worse for the squad.
The acting was decent enough for the genre. It is usually a joy to see Pilou Asbæk, and he sure can play a scary creep. Jovan Adepo does an ok job playing Boyd, but I never really like a weak or insecure lead character, so I am a bit biased. Wyatt Russell is pretty good as Ford.

The first part of the movie is about an aerial drop of the US soldiers. That part is impressive! Amazing images and effects. The French hovel is well done as well. You get the sense of oppression the people are living with every day. The part beneath the tower (trying to avoid too many spoilers here) is what bugs me. I get that it has to be simple, but it is just so unrealistically primitive and above anything else disgusting. Furthermore, the lack of staff, the amount of specimens and production count is just not feasible. That part of the movie is made that way solely to creep out the viewers, and I just really don't like that.

This could have been something right out of the many horror books that I read, and if you are into WWII horror and/or occult conspiracies, this is not half bad. You might actually enjoy it more than I did.
