I watched the original Tomb Raider movies, when they came out in the 90s and 00s. This is something completely different. It is still a brilliant, strong and attractive woman, who dives into a tomb to save the world, but it still feels completely different. Maybe it is as if the targeted audience for this movie is 10 years younger than the first ones.
The story is basically the same. The father is missing, she goes looking for him and ends up in a tomb with some bad people. I guess that is the concept of the franchise. It works, but it is a bit thin.

The acting was decent all around. Alicia Vikander, playing Lara Croft, does a good job portraying a tough yet vulnerable young girl. Walton Goggins is a perfect choice for his role as a cold creep. Dominic West, playing the father, is slightly annoying.

The effects are pretty good, but some of the scenes are just over the top. They look good, but they are a bit too much for my taste.

All in all I liked the original Tomb Raider movies better than this one. I was a bit disappointed. But what do I know? I am just a grumpy old man.
