Courtroom drama of YEAH... I like this type of movies a lot, so I might be biased. And Ryan Gosling is one of my new found favorite actors. Looking very much forward seeing him in Nicolas Winding Refn's new Drive. I'd say the best thing 'bout this is the character development. Even though you see Hopkins kill a woman in the very beginning you sort have a lot of sympathy with him, but that surely vanishes over time... And it goes the other way around with Goslings character, who starts out like other lawyers, The Firm, A Time to Kill, The Rainmaker etc., and develops to be yet more sympathetic. The pace and the mood of the movie goes well hand in hand with the subject of the movie. I mean it's kind of slow and the mood is mostly set with slow thriller'ish ambient music, which gets you on your toes or on the edge of your seat, so the subject being murder and a guilty man walking make sit all fit well. Good movie, very recommendable. |
