The movie delivers thrills and suspense throughout. The story is pretty simple: something fishy is going on, someone did something bad, and the hero finally figures it out and saves the day, well, sort of. There are actually a few plot twists along the way, which keeps it exciting. Kate Beckinsale's acting was flawless. She plays this very serious role with a high level of conviction. The fact that she is tremendously beautiful is an added bonus, but her acting is so good that she could have gotten by anyway. Tom Skerritt plays an okay Doc, and Gabriel Macht does an okay job as well, but neither compares to Beckinsale. The photography of Antarctica is rather limited, but well done. Most of the rest takes place either inside the base or in the middle of a whiteout. I got a feeling of claustrophobia more than once. If you are looking for a thriller action movie set in a harsh and cold environment, this could be a hit for you. I would give it seven out of ten. |
