Interesting and captivating movie concept. The story is somewhat mediocre but still exciting enough to keep you interested until the end. The end, however, is highly disappointing.
*medium spoiler alert*
After a massive buildup, spanning almost the entire movie actually, there is a big show down at the end and then you are basically left with nothing other than a setup for a sequel. That was a major disappointment for me.
Michael Fassbender may not be the best actor in the world, but he still delivers a great action movie performance here. Other than him there are a few other known faces, where Jeremy Irons is a favorite of mine. In general the acting in the movie is nothing spectacular, but fitting for a simple action movie.
I have never played the video game with the same title, so my ground for an opinion is only based on being a movie nerd.
As a whole the movie is a decent action movie and nothing more, unfortunately. It does have a few moments, where it is rather beautiful, but the plot is predictable and the story is simple and thin. If you have played the video game, I suppose you have to watch this one. If you enjoy knights templar conspiracy movies, this might be light entertainment. If you like movies with kick-ass action, this is not half bad.
