Another high budget but silly action movie featuring Nicolas Cage. Is this becoming a niche for him?
The plot is a classic revenge/vigilante movie, but the implication of Hell, Satanic cults etc. gives the movie quite a twist. As it is an American made action movie, you know what is going to happen all the way through, but as long as you have expected that, it is acceptable.

Nicolas Cage have done quite a few of these high budget but not that god action movies recently - Season of the Witch, The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Kick-Ass. This one just adds to the pile. He does a steady performance, it is just the same part that he has (almost) always played.
William Fichtner does a fantastic job as "The Accountant". His cool is quite scary and he is brilliant for a part like the one he does here. I hope that we will see a lot more of that from him.
Amber Heard is mostly good looking and does the comedy of her role very well.

What pulls this movie down for me is the effects and the dialogue. The effects are overdone in a way that reminds me of a B-movie zombie film. And some of the dialogue is just silly and lame. At several points in this movie I caught myself laughing at stuff that was not supposed to be funny, but just really seemed out of place. I think it is a shame.

In general another brainless Nicolas Cage action movie which is funny, silly, lame and at times also good.
