Fantastic impressive adventure! This is by far a classic cornerstone in fantasy literature, and when they first started making the “Lord of the Rings” movies, I was overly excited. Now as they are finishing the prequel series based on the Hobbit, the excitement continues. That is really great. This movie was originally released in a super special high frequency 3D format, that allegedly made people nauseated in the movie theaters. If that is actually true, I do not know. However I only watched it in HD on my home theater system, but I was still very impress by the fascinating pictures. Peter Jackson has really gone all in on this one! Ian McKellen will always be unmatched as Gandalf. In fact I this he might actually BE Gandalf. Martin Freeman did a good job as Bilbo. I have not seen a lot of movies featuring him, so I was a bit anxious when I heard that they choose him, but he does it rather well I think. The hype about Richard Armitage was enormous. Who would have known that a dwarf king would have been so popular with the ladies? Despite having a quite entertaining story this movie is also highly focused on elaborate action sequences. In my opinion this was a bit over the top at several points. It was impressive but just a bit too much. The movie is closely following the book, which might also be the reason for it being split into three parts each of approximately three hours. However this might normally be a good thing, for me this was way too long. I lost my concentration at several points and I was glad that I saw it at home where I had the opportunity to divide it into several viewing sessions. A good and highly recommendable fantasy movie. If your liked Lord of the Rings, this is definitely worth watching. |
