This is not a deep and sensitive movie. This is about driving fast and blowing things up - if you are looking for more, you will be disappointed. I'm a huge fan of Statham, but this movie gives neither him nor any other actor in this movie anything to work with. The plot is simple; a guy is falsely accused and forced into a high security prison because the warden has some sport activity she enjoys quite a lot, and he just happens to have the desired qualifications for it. Sounds familiar? If you might like a plot like this, I would recommend you saw The Longest Yard (both 2005 and 1974 edition) and Mean Machine (which is also featuring Statham). These have a better cast and a much better plot. I was surprised how much the movie is similar to the game, Carmageddon, and if you are into that game (like myself) you might just enjoy this movie a bit purely due to the similarities. That is what lifted my rating the last point. |

Argh...Saw this movies together with two friends and I actually hoped to see a kind of The Running Man(1987), with Statham playing a cool new version of Ben Richards. But Statham didn't do it very good. I liked him in The transporter and Crank, but in this fkick, where his actually trying to show emotions etc. he's talent misses out. Well well, the movies is based on the movie Death Race 2000 from 1975 with Sylvester Stallone as one of the "evil guys" hehe that's kind of funny. Well that old movie was great inspiration to the 1997 video game Carmageddon, and maybe it should all have stopped there :) I guess a Sunday with hangover would have made this movie better, but when you are fully capable of keeping track of plot, characters etc, then the quality of the movie shines through... as bad... If you like Statham you should watch this to learn more about him, but don't expect to much. The movie is set in the future where all prisons(in the US) i privately held and the owners are making money on tv-show starring the inmates. Some producers makes a wrong choice when they try to "invent" a future, but this movies actually does it quit well. They're not trying to make thing futuristic, but are just showing us a world where the people stopped giving a shit and therefor the world is falling apart. Pretty scary thought. Well that's properly the best thing that I can say about this movie. Well what can that bad guys learn from this movie... "Drive safe!" I rate it 4 of 10, It's not very very bad, but below average in all aspects, sry - Peter |
