A movie about one assassin is great, but with 30 assassin hunting each other, what can go wrong? Well, if you watch this movie and feel the same way that I do about that soft person that always get in the way for the ruthless killing, you will be able to answer that question. The overall plot for this movie sounds fantastic for an assassin fan like me, and I could not wait to see it. Even though it is fairly simple, the potential for a grand explosion of action with hit-man after hit-man battling out who is the greatest killer of them all is enormous. This is largely fulfilled, but a range of sub-plots, presumably to flesh out the action skeleton, is set to soften up the plot. This is a dangerous thing, as it often blocks the excitement of the movie - which, unfortunately, is also the case in this movie. The casting for the wide range of hit-men must have been a lot of work, and most of them are quite spot on. Ving Rhames is brilliant as the veteran and Kelly Hu is quite hot and dangerous, when she is not looking after Robert Carlyle. The "wild Texan" is a bit over the top, but I guess that is in the script. The effects are typical for an American movie, and they work quite well with the theme, even though they might be a bit too much. The underlying music is good and supports the tense mood of the action. A classic American action movie, which gets in its own way and does not fulfill the full potential. A good action movie for the boys, but not recommendable for a night out with your girlfriend. |
