A classic story, albeit a bit thin in my opinion. Evil uncle slays the father, the son comes for revenge, and that is about all of it. The plot is still pretty decent because there are many challenges along the way, but I felt disappointed when the movie ended. I simply wished it had gone differently. Claes Bang does a good job as the evil uncle. Willem Dafoe is brilliant as the shaman, a small role for a big talent, but the movie would not have been the same without him. Nicole Kidman is a perfect fit for the role of the mother. I am uncertain about Alexander Skarsgard. His acting talent, or lack of it, makes the role feel irrelevant and slightly boring. Physically he fits the part well, but he comes off as a blank. The cinematography is well put together, while the fight scenes are slightly below average. The historical accuracy is close enough to be believable for a movie like this. If you like vikings or movies about revenge this is pretty decent. If you want more content than that you might end up disappointed. My rating is six out of ten. |
