Impressive production but not a particularly good movie.
The story is a basic introduction to how Superman came to Earth and how the world on Krypton ended. Those of us who are old enough might remember this story from the original Superman movie from the 80s. This one has been jazzed up quite a bit however, and during that process, it has lost its significance. This results in a poorly told simple story. No surprises and no excitement, in my opinion.

The lead actor playing Superman, Henry Cavill, is impressively muscular above all, but unfortunately I do not see him as a good actor. Instead of making Clark Kent seem like a taciturn person, he comes across as a slightly retarded man.

The main villain Zod, played by Michael Shannon is evil but not impressive. To me he seemed more like a primary minion of some evil overlord.

The fact that they have casted both Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe is impressive, but their small parts that do not fit their talent. They are good nonetheless.

The special effects are stupid over the top. Explosions are crazy big, and supernatural beings blasting through numerous buildings looks fancy enough, but in my opinion it is completely unnecessary and frankly just too much. It looks like the effects are just compensation for the poor story.

In general this is not really my taste in superhero movies. However, it might be due to my dislike of DC. There is no need to watch this in order to see the Justice League movie, which is slightly better in my opinion.
