Great acting and impressive effects!

My knowledge is very limited on children's fairytale, and Alice in Wonderland is among the vast amount that I have not read (yet?). However this movie is supposed to be a follow up on the original story, so I guess it does not matter greatly in enjoying it.

The plot is fairly simple as is the norm for fantasy movies, but is does have a certain Tim Burton twist to it, that makes i highly unpredictable and enormously entertaining. The world is impressively detailed, and every twist and turn of the story makes sense in a very in unrelated way. Fascinating!

Johnny Depp delivers yet another stunning performance as the Mad Hatter. Both Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (Tim Burton's wife) seem to have become a regular feature in Tim Burton's movies. I am very much for that, as they both fit perfectly into his peculiar universe.
The young girl Mia Wasikowska playing Alice does an acceptable job for such a young actress. Given the right opportunities she might turn into something interesting in the future.

Creating visual effects for a Tim Burton film must be an exciting challenge, and in this movie (as in almost all of his other movies) is is executed perfectly. It is a great combination of modern technology and superior craftsmanship.
Another classic appearance on the credits for a Tim Burton movie is Danny Elfman. His brilliant talent fits perfectly with setting of the movie and creates a fantastic sound scape that keeps you hooked to the screen.
I saw this movie on Blue Ray and therefor missed the 3D option in the theaters. I have been told that is was nicely done, but have no comments on my own on the subject.

This is a fairytale for adults who enjoy intricate fantasy, brilliant effects and sound, and Tim Burton in general.
