"Army of Thieves" offers a decent enough entertainment experience, though it falls short of achieving true cinematic excellence. While the film manages to engage its audience with its heist-centric storyline, it doesn't quite reach the level of being fantastic. One notable aspect is the portrayal of the safecracker by Matthias Schweighöfer, whose incessant squeaks and nervous fidgeting can become rather grating over time. This quirky characterization adds an element of annoyance that occasionally detracts from the overall viewing enjoyment.

It's important to note that "Army of Thieves" serves as a prequel and a build-up for the chronologically next movie "Army of the Dead" (from which this movis is actually a spin-off). As a result, the film intentionally leaves viewers with an open ending, hinting at events to come. This approach both heightens the anticipation for what lies ahead and leaves some loose ends that might have been more satisfying to tie up. While the movie successfully sets the stage for the continuation of the story, it can leave audiences craving a more conclusive resolution within the confines of this particular installment.

In summary, "Army of Thieves" provides a fair dose of entertainment, but its potential is somewhat stifled by certain annoying character traits and an open-ended narrative direction. It paves the way for future developments in the overarching storyline, yet leaves viewers wishing for a bit more closure in the here and now.
