Classic action movie - very thin plot, but lots of hard hitting action.
I think we have seen this type/plot of movie a million times before; a guy movies to a quiet place, trouble arises, trouble escalades, guy fixes trouble. Despite the numberless repetitions, the model works and it is actually a good movie if you are into this genre. A thing that puzzled me was the death of the mother. Was this more convenient for the plot (I think not) or did she get into an argument with the director and got thrown of the set? I found the explanation quite awkward and also the starting romance with the school teacher (a spoiler I know, but you knew it was going to happen anyway).
They have toned down the fighting scenes from what we are used to see from Jason Statham. It might fit the movie a bit better, but I did miss seeing him kick butt on several occasions. James Franco was yet again quite good as an action villain. I am looking forward to seeing him as a hero, because I really think his combination of charm/slickness and roughness would make a brilliant anti-hero.
In general an acceptable action movie featuring Jason Statham.
