Once more I consulted a top 10 list of best movies within a genre and found that This should be one of the best gangster movies out there... I don't wanna discuss this movie's right to on that list. I'd rather just comment on it as yet another movie. It's truly good! The setting of the 1920's is nailed perfectly(or at least is very believable). I like that it takes focus away from some of the stories that already has been told('bout Al Capone for instance) his mentioned in this one as well, but this one takes place in a way smaller community than great Chicago. So it really feels like you get close to the people involved and it does also takes it's time, which in a "historical" movie is preferable for me. The acting is top notch, but there's two things that bothered me in the movie. 1. A father and son gets wife/mother and son/brother murdered and goes on a revenge. Durring this time of sorrow they decided to try and tell a story of a father and son who gets closer and gets to know each other. Durring this "period" the film makers has decided to use a lot of comic mischief, which DOES NOT fir in with the rest of the mood of the movie, or the seriousness of the plot. 2. The character that Jude Law takes is somehow misplaced. He plays his part very well and the character is also somehow very "cool", but I just don't think it fits into this movie. So a great movie... |
