Oh my gosh... that escalated suddenly. I am still a little shocked from all the bones breaking and skulls cracking. It starts out as a decent gangster movie about a drug run that goes wrong, then transitions into a depressing psychological thriller where I almost lost interest, before suddenly flipping over into an almost slasher movie. Holy cow!

I have watched many comedy movies with Vince Vaughn over the years, but this is clearly something entirely different. To me, he seemed quite convincing in the role, and I would definitely watch more action movies with him in the lead role. Udo Kier is the perfect creep, just spot on for this role. Don Johnson's performance annoyed me a bit. I have never been a fan of Jennifer Carpenter, so I might be a bit biased, but her performance was just below average, in my opinion.

There are several fight scenes, or brawl scenes really, and I like how they are very low key, with straight up punching and breaking bones. The movie does not seem interested in making the violence look pretty, and that works surprisingly well.

Overall, I thought this was a good action movie, but you will have to have patience for the middle part and the stomach for the violence in the last part. There is also some very disturbing cruelty and graphic threats involving a pregnant woman. Being a father myself, that nearly made me shut off the movie.
