Heads rolls indeed in Sleepy Hollow (1999), the gothic supernatural horror flick from the goth mastero Tim Burton. The creepy looking village is being haunted by a headless horseman, who chops off heads and the one man to stop him is the sceptic policeman Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp). Crane learns it the hard way that seeing is believing...

Tim Burton has created gothic movie magic before with Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) that both had stunning production design. With Sleepy Hollow he has outdone himself in world creation and the films world is a wonderful thing to behold. Rick Heinrichs, the films production designer took home a well deserved Oscar for his achievement. Also nominated were Colleen Atwoods beautiful costumes and Emmanuel Lubezkis fantastic cinematography.

Burtons direction is amazing with his mix of horror and humour. The many scenes with the horseman are both terrific and horrifying. Depp gives one of his best performances for Burton and the rest of the cast (Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson and Christopher Walken) is great fun to watch. The great score by the other Burton-collabrator, composer Danny Elfman is among his very best scores.

Sleepy Hollow is just perfect entertainment for Halloween and watch out for your heads!
