Decent modern remake.
It feels almost just as much like a Batman movie combined with the movie 1984 than an actual Robin Hood movie. There is not a lot of plot, and as you know most of the idea of the Robin Hood tale, you also know where this is going. However, it is a slightly new take on the story, which is slightly refreshing and at the same time also a bit too modern in my opinion.
The acting is acceptable. I have never been a big fan of Jamie Foxx, but I have to admit that he does a decent job here. The sheriff, played by Ben Mendelsohn, is very believable in his role while he is also responsible for giving the movie a more modern feel of an ever watching dictator. Taron Egerton, playing Robin of Loxley is too anonymous in my opinion, and does not pull of the charm that I was expecting.
The action and stunts are pretty good. The bow fighting in particular is very impressive, and was actually taught by the Danish bowman Lars Andersen, who is an expert in various applications of a bow. If you like the style, you should check out some of the YouTube videos behind it.
In my opinion a decent and also recommendable take on a modern version of the legend of Robin Hood.
