A pretty decent movie. I was hoping for more, particularly the main villain, Dr. Carlton Drake was too weak in my opinion. I am buying the whole idea of the alien stuff, that has a will of its own, but the inter party relationship between them (trying to avoid spoilers here) is just too obvious and was not played out well. For reference, I have not read the comics, despite always being a fan of the character Venom, so my judgements might be a symptom of my lack of knowledge. Tom Hardy is a great tough guy actor. He was, in my opinion, not very convincing playing a weak and witty journalist. Maybe they should have tweaked his personality a bit more to fit with the actor? He is great at playing the monster Venom. The effects are pretty good. Obviously some, or a lot actually, is way over the top, but that is expected. If you are a fan of Venom this is an obvious must see, but that also goes with regular Marvel fans. I hope they make more movies with this character. |
