Rusty Terminator This is the fourth movie in the Terminator saga. The film has plenty of action, but the story is thin and clumsy. John Connor is in the movie, but as a character he does not have much to do (mainly screaming and shooting). Christian Bale is a good actor, but his acting skills are nearly not used in the role of John Connor (in theory the role of John Connor could be played by any male actor with big muscles and military jargon). Instead much of the film is about Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington). Marcus Wright is an interesting character in Terminator Salvation, but takes too much screen time (I would like more focus on John Connor who is the leader of the human resistance in the Terminator movies). The special effects in Terminator Salvation are on a high level, but unfortunately this is not enough to save the movie. Some of the older Terminators in the movie look deadly, while others models look like something from a Transformers movie. Except from T800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger's model), most Terminators in the movie seem pretty harmless (they can throw their victims, but are not able to kill). Christian Bale was recently asked about what he thinks of Terminator Salvation (on the premiere of Ridley Scott’s "Exodus"). The conclusion was: "It did not work" (Terminator Salvation as a movie). Originally, Terminator Salvation should have been the beginning of a new trilogy. When the film’s earnings were not as high as expected, the two planned sequels were scrapped. Spoiler alert: The ending of the movie is totally untrustworthy (John Connor gets Marcus Wright's heart after a heavy fight with a T800). Apparently, director McG did not dare to kill John Connor, as the script originally intended. I know the movie takes place in the future, but a heart transplation in a military hospital on an apocalyptic battlefield is simply too far out for me. T3 was a low, but Terminator Salvation is not much better, if you ask me. I fear for Terminator Genisys, which is expected to premiere in July 2015 (Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the Terminator franchise).

Bale is a brilliant Connor! Now we are talking! This is a far better Terminator movie than the previous one. With a simple plot, a sketchy story, lots of action and not a lot of deep thoughts this is really what I was looking for! Aside from all the hard hitting action I also enjoyed the high-tech vs. low-tech conflict. This is really how we are going to defeat the robots if/when the problem arises in my opinion. If anyone were to take up the role as the adult John Connor, I absolutely think that Christian Bale was a good choice. I enjoyed his powerful performance quite a lot. I think that he in general is a good actor, but he does action really well. I also liked Sam Worthington in his part. He seemed convincing and did a good job I think. Moon Bloodgood (what a crazy name!) was kind of sexy as a powerful jetpilot-soldier-woman. She also did an OK job in her part. The choice of Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Serena Kogan was also right on the money. Even though she is quite iconic by now she still fits this minor part perfectly without taking over the scene. Well done! In general there was lots of stunts, action, guns, robots and explosions. All well done and a bit over the top fitting perfectly or a Terminator movie. If you like the Terminator universe, this is absolutely recommendable! If you like Christian Bale in actions movie, this is definitely worth seeing. |
