A below average drama that turns into an average classic action movie.
Overall the plot is very simple and a bit thin - a boy gets framed and The Rock saves the day. He does used a bit less kick ass-style than usual though. The first half of the more is mostly about the framing of his son, and at a point it became a bit painful to watch Dwayne Johnson trying to act his butt of. Then it switches over to a more classic action movie and here he fits right in.
The fact that there might be some truth to how the American justice system works is very scary! Why should your sentence be shortened only because you are able to frame someone (more or less innocent) else? I am no expert, but to my knowledge it is quite a bit different in the country where I live. The movie also has a morale about this in the end where a short text regarding minimal sentences and also the severity of punishment in drug-related cases compared to rape, fraud and murder. I will not judge if it is right or wrong, but I was surprised to see this text and suddenly realised that this movie also actually had a moral statement. It is featuring “The Rock”! Who would have known??
If you like movies featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, this one is only half way recommended, the same goes for if you (like me) like brainless action movies. If you like movies about wrongful imprisonment or drug charges and American law, this might go for the second part of a recommendation. I did not like it and do not think I will be seeing it again.
