Get the gold, save the people - easy!
I have watched this movie several times and I still remember what a rush i was seeing it for the first time in a movie theater. The story really exciting, the acting is good and particularly the visual effects were phenomenal, and for me still makes the small hairs stand up.
At first it seems like a simple heist movie, but the way the characters are introduced you just sense that there is something more to the plot. Slowly a whole different story unravels and you become quite gripped with excitement as our heroes are faced with new problems right to the end.
George Clooney is a brilliant actor and he pulls of a classic good performance here as Archie Gates. Mark Wahlberg is not one of my favorites but he is still pretty good, and his performance here as Troy is in the high end. Spike Jonze (cool name!) as Conrad is allright the same goes for Ice Cube (lame name!) as Chief.
As mentioned the visual effects here were really something else. To my knowledge this was the first move to use the “bullet-time” effect which basically is a step by step motion of the ballistic routes of a single or series of bullets. In a big movie theater that just knocked my socks off. It has been used is quite a lot of different movies since, but for me this movie takes the credit for it!
My favorite parts are the mexican standoff in the village, the phone call back to the U.S.A. and the negotiations for the cars. No spoileres here, just mark them down.
