Great plot to a scary story!
First of all I must say that I was kind of thrilled just after seeing the very creative video during the opening credits. That par is really well done and sets the political mood, to an otherwise political incorrect movie, just right. Guns are bad, but makes a good profit!
The plot is not that complicated and you sort of already guess what is going to happen in the end right away, but I really like the way it is handled. I is a good description of everyday life for a merchant of death. The twist in the very end came as a surprise to me. I had guessed a different end, but this one fits perfect. Good stuff.
Despite this movie being about lots and lots of guns, I am not sure I would characterize it as an action movie. Sure a few guys gets their brains blown out, but mostly this is actually more about dealing guns than about firing them. I think I would call this a thrilling drama.
It was good seeing Nicolas Cage playing a role that only features small amounts of being covered in dirt and blood... well, less than usual anyway. I am still not convinced that the guy can act though, as it is still very close to his standard role. It is one of his better performances in my opinion.
The effects are done quite nicely. The slow motion of a AK-47 with the sound fading over to a cash register ring in particular brought a smile to my face.
If you like Nicolas Cage you should try this movie. If you like the mind blowing concept of international arms dealing this is a great movie.
What scared me the most about this movie was the very last subtitles on the DVD “based on actual events”. After seeing this movie that is scary!
