Spider-Man is great! I remember watching the original TV series in the 80’ies that my uncle recorded on video in the late 70’ies. Those were fantastic times! As far as I remember, this movie is very true to the story of how Peter Parker became Spider-Man, but I might be wrong. Also please note that I have not read the comics, so my judgement might be a bit off there as well. As we need a lot of time getting introduced to Spider-Man/Parker, there is very little room left for the conflict between the Green Goblin and Spider-Man. This makes the plot seem a bit thin, but it still works. I have never liked Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. He suits the role as an awkward youngster (Peter Parker) pretty decent, but somehow he is not believable as Spider-Man. Too young? Too whiney? Something like that. Willem Dafoe is just brilliant as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin! He is really perfect for that part. He is scary yet likeable. Brilliant! I have always had a bit of a crush on Kirsten Dunst, and for me she is the perfect Mary Jane Watson. She is cute and yet strong willed. When I saw the “web-swinging scenes” in the movie theater I was really amazed. That stuff is greatly done. Even now watching it on Blue-Ray I still get a great big smile when Spidey goes swinging through the city. Like Spider-Man? Watch it! Like Marvel Comics? Watch it! Like superhero movies? Watch it. |
