Highly impressive martial arts but thin plot. I guess this what could be expected of a movie in this genre. The plot, the dialogue and the acting is very martial-arts-movie-like - simple bordering lame. The martial arts in this movie however is very stunning and severely scull crushing. Tony Jaa playing Tien really gets to beat up A LOT of bad guys in a most impressive and effective way. Really good stuff! Watch this movie if you are into martial arts or just martial arts movies. There is stuff to learn in here and stuff to gawk in amazement at. 2026-08-30 This is the second time I have watched this movie in order to do a proper review. I am still slightly confused about what this movie is really about, but I enjoyed it anyway. There are a lot of loose ends that never get tied together and tiny details that never get explained. It has no apparent connection to the first Ong Bak movie, but by the end there is sort of a spoken teaser that might make sense if you see the third movie in the franchise. This time I watched a dubbed version with English spoken language and English subtitles, which did not match, by the way. It might have lost some of the sense and feel of the original language, but I chose it in order to be able to follow the plot a bit more, as I do not speak Thai. I am not sure that was the right decision, though. Tony Jaa is an amazing athlete and his martial prowess is absolutely top tier. There are tons and tons of fights, and they are all very well choreographed and highly enjoyable. If you are into martial arts movies, this one is definitely recommendable. If you are looking for a great story with a good plot, this is not it. Nonetheless, I have raised my rating from six to seven after watching the movie for a second time. |
