I do not know what to make of this film. I do not really like it, but it is not too bad. The plot is simple and straight forward. It is a bit too simple to be any interesting for a crime movie, in my opinion. As viewer you know just about everything, so there is no real mystery there. Tamer Hassan brilliant and scary as ever. I would NOT like him to get crossed with me. Alan Ford does a fantastic job, despite his age of 76 while shooting this movie. That man is truly a gangster boss. Simon Phillips playing Jack is not known to me, and does in my opinion not deliver any starlit performance. He seems too soft to play a rough guy. The whole movie is shot in black and white, but certain elements have been added colour to highlight points in the movie - like blood, a shirt, a steel column(?) etc. At first I though it was done, to sort out the different alliances between the characters, but then other stuff started having colour and the mix of colours does not seem to have any intelligent pattern behind them (or maybe I am just to dumb to see them?). In the end, to me the effects of the b/w with colour highlights just seem like some fancy artsy stuff, to make the movie more attractive. I was not impressed. If you like easy crime movies with moderate action, this be something for you. |
