Such a promising movie that ultimately disappoints. So much room for interesting character development - missed opportunities all around.

Amy Adams' performance is great. Her character very lovable and with surprising depth. Unfortunately her counterpart, her husband is one of the most uninteresting characters I have ever seen in a movie. His role must have been very easy to play, just be an annoying jerk who doesn't say much. How on earth did they come up with that idea!

Basically the movie is about a brother who comes home to his family after 3 years. He's bringing home his girl friend, an older woman who is very well educated and articulated - opposite this Carolina home. The premise is great and holds many contrasts, but I didn't feel the main themes got explored at all.

It's the kind of movie I usually enjoy, but the script and the odd choices that were made in the production of this movie leaves me very disappointed. The ending is very uninspired as well. What a waste.
