A 3 million dollar price tag is suddenly put on a medium level security classic desk jockey for the FBI. This brings some of the highest rated hit men out of the woodwork to claim the prize. But who is behind the order? The plots is classic for a high pace American hit man movie. A hit is ordered, first there claims the prize, hit men fighting each other and the FBI and a big showdown in th end. This one comes with a twist though. Hopefully without saying too much, I sat the last 15 minutes think that this was a major build up for a sequel, but with a bang just before credits started rolling, I had serious doubts. It might not make any sense, but ones you have seen it, I'm pretty sure you will feel the same way. So no high points for the creativity or innovation of the plot and for me the twist was a bit too abrupt. A thing that disappointed me was the whole hill billy theme. While most of the movie was strong and underplayed, these just struck me as lame. They made this otherwise serious action movie into a silly comedy. Bad form! Pretty Boy Clane Crawford actually did a nice job playing the do-good FBI agent Baker, while Tom Berenger playing Mr. Weed disappointed me in the end. Vinnie Jones has always been a huge favorite of mine, and his performance in this movie is no exception. He is simply put in this world to be an cold blooded hit man. Tommy Flanagan is put in a more silent role in this movie, and I think that is a shame. In my opinion his skills as an actor shines more through with a more verbal character, and not so much with a silent I-speak-with-my-body-language type. Martha Higareda is smoking hot as a black widow - perfect for the role. Obviously there would be a lot of gun fighting in a movie like this, and a wide range of stunts. These worked great and you get griped by the action, almost ducking not to get hit by a stray bullet. Then something blows up and you are sent back to the 80'ies with cut in busts of fire, that looks static and overlayed. Disappointed again. This is a guy movie, as it mainly cuts from action scene to action scene with no time to stop for flowers, feeling or something fluffy. The plot and effects leaves this movie at a 6, but the performance of some of my favorite actors pulls it up to a small 7. Others might not be as gentle. |
