This is a short TV movie, only 50 minutes, which can only be interpreted as an appetizer for an upcoming new season or maybe even an actual movie in Marvel's Punisher franchise. Frank Castle has been through A LOT of trauma, and it is taking its toll on his mind. We see him suffer severely under this in the first half of the movie. As a father myself, it is very tough to watch some of these parts. The second half of the movie more than adequately makes up for it with extensive and excessive violence. The Punisher is one of my favorite Marvel characters. Watching one of your superheroes in a weak state for an extensive time is not fun. I know it is important for the story, and it was obviously pretty well executed, seeing as how I reacted emotionally to it, but personally, I wish it would have been just a little bit less. Jon Bernthal is a great fit for playing Frank Castle. He has got the physical build and the menacing demeanor that is just perfect. If you have seen the entire series, this is a nice prelude to whatever is coming next in the franchise. Hopefully, we will see more of the strong and determined Punisher. I give it six out of ten. |
