This is a long and slow story that suddenly flips on itself and ends up somewhere entirely different. I'll not go into details to avoid spoiling it for you. I'll just say that I had a “what the heck” moment, and then was slightly disappointed. Nonetheless, the story is rather simple, but the plot is super complex and intentionally misleading to a point where it becomes slightly frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I do like a good mystery, but when you intentionally leave out details to make it more mysterious, it's just annoying. Rebecca Romijn is perfect for her role and delivers a great performance. I wish we had seen a bit more of her character's strong side, as I think, or hope, that she would have nailed it. I need to find more movies with her in a lead role to investigate further. Antonio Banderas has a slightly toned down role. A lead supporting character, I would call it, and he is not dominant or macho. He is actually trying to be a nice guy, and it suits his natural charm very well. There is a bit of shooting, but very little focus on that. There is a gruesome accident that could have been slightly less gory. Then there is the initial heist, right at the beginning of the movie, where some of the equipment is so fancy that it comes off as stupid. Overall, this is a slightly better than average heist drama. It could have been better if the middle part weren't dragged out so much and if the ending had gone very differently. I enjoyed the characters and the acting, so if that is more important to you than a proper story, then go watch it. I give it six out of ten. |
