A simple revenge story about a good cop who is betrayed by his partner after the Russian mob pays him off. Now he wants revenge, and almost the entire movie takes place inside a prison while revolving around that very small plot. It makes for a narrow story that never really becomes inspiring or even particularly exciting. Matthew Reese is a decent stuntman but only a mediocre actor. Chuck Liddell certainly looks menacing, but he never manages to make his character all that interesting. The pleasant surprise for me was Dolph Lundgren. His performance was actually not half bad and added a little more weight to the movie than I expected. There is a lot of hand to hand combat throughout the film, but the choreography is only mediocre in my opinion. The larger fights near the end feel especially staged and lack the intensity needed to make them truly memorable. Overall, this is a slightly above average action movie. If you enjoy prison movies filled with corrupt cops, gangsters and plenty of fistfights, then this might be a hit for you. Otherwise, there is probably not enough here to make it stand out. I would rate it six out of ten. |
