A very classic superhero movie style story with the usual idyllic world, introduction of a major predicament, suspense, action and eventual solution. The plot is extremely straightforward with no real surprises, which is expected for this kind of movie, but I still think it falls a bit too short. A few scenes are simply too silly or downright stupid, and that dragged my rating below average. The most laughable moment for me was Sue giving birth in zero gravity. As a father of three, I can confidently say that would have been a whole lot messier than what Hollywood presented here. Honestly, I think that scene should simply have happened off screen back on Earth.

Pedro Pascal is a decent action actor and does an acceptable job, although he does not fully match my own image of Reed Richards. Vanessa Kirby is an interesting choice for Sue Storm. Not my first pick either, but she is not bad.

The CGI for Ben Grimm was disappointing in my opinion. He simply did not look believable enough. The same goes for Silver Surfer, which is especially disappointing considering how important the character is supposed to feel. On the other hand, the effects for Johnny Storm and Sue Storm were handled reasonably well.

Overall this ended up being a disappointing Marvel experience for me. Maybe my expectations were simply too high, but the letdown was real. Still, if you are following the Marvel saga, you will probably want to watch this anyway in order to get the background before Avengers: Doomsday. I would rate it five out of ten.
