I am not a big fan of the anime genre, but every now and then I give it another try. So far I still have not found anything that truly got me hooked, and this movie was no exception.

The story itself is decent, following a pop idol who wants to become an actress and the many struggles she faces along the way. The plot unfolds nicely and even delivers a neat little twist at the end. Still, there is just something about the movie that prevents me from really getting excited about it. Maybe it is cultural, maybe it is the genre itself, or maybe it is simply me not understanding what makes it so beloved. I honestly do not know.

On a funny note, it is very easy to see where the writers of Black Swan found inspiration. The similarities are impossible to ignore.

The entire movie is in Japanese, so if you do not speak the language you will have to stay glued to the subtitles throughout.

If you are into anime, I have been told this is considered one of the better ones. I was not convinced myself, but I might simply not be the right person to ask. My rating lands at four out of ten.
