What an impressive ride. It starts as a tiny story about a girl accusing a guidance counselor of rape, but quickly turns into something much bigger. The plot seems like a straight line at first, then flips, takes a huge turn, and keeps twisting again and again. Every time I thought I had it figured out, it changed direction once more. Without spoiling anything, things are not what you think, and that constant shifting kept me engaged because I did not want to miss a single detail.

That same complexity is also what drags the movie down a bit. The writing starts to feel thin as it stretches to land each new twist, and by the end a lot of plot holes are filled in through post credit scenes that might not have been necessary if things had been toned down slightly.

The acting ranges from mediocre to slightly below average, with Matt Dillon and maybe Kevin Bacon standing a bit above the rest. Denise Richards is clearly cast to make the most of her looks, and it fits with what the movie is going for.

There are very few stunts and effects, and they are handled decently without taking attention away from the story.

Overall, this is a good movie with very high ambitions that manages to impress and surprise. If you enjoy complex plots that twist and turn, it is definitely worth watching. And if you are a fan of Denise Richards, you will certainly get something out of it.
