Good action but very little story. At several points it felt like we were railroaded through the plot as if it could not carry itself. Charlize Theron is good in this role, but in this movie she is supposed to be so troubled that there is not a lot of room left for much acting. The rest of the cast is mediocre, and Uma Thurmans character only really gets some decent lines near the end, which she delivers well enough. The filming style with the wobbly camera and the hard cutting within scenes is annoying and threw me off more than once. This also feels mostly like a layup for the next installment in the franchise. I did not know this, so I was quite surprised when the credits suddenly started rolling. The Old Guard universe is interesting, but this movie is below average unfortunately in my opinion. My rating is a five out of ten. |
