A decent story, but executed like a B rated action movie. The post apocalyptic universe it takes place in seems very interesting, yet the whole thing feels rushed and superficial. I really missed having some background stories for several of the characters. The plot seems pretty straightforward at first, but don’t be fooled — there are several twists toward the end. Dave Bautista fits his role well, as he is more or less typecast for this kind of character. I expected Milla Jovovich to be perfect as the Witch, but she didn’t come across as strong as I had hoped. I’m not sure if that’s due to the writing or something else. Arly Jover didn’t convince me as The Enforcer either; she came off more as a nuisance than a real threat. A movie like this naturally calls for a lot of action and fighting, but the stunts felt forced and unnatural, which ruined the mood quite a bit. The special effects were also over the top in places — especially the showdown with the demons, which I found rather silly. If you enjoy supernatural post apocalyptic movies, this might be something for you. I wasn’t impressed, but I was entertained. |
