Fight or Flight is a nice action movie that comes very close to being great. The baseline of the story is strong, but there could have been so much more. If more time had been spent expanding on the many fascinating details, this could have been fantastic. The plot itself is very simple, with a tiny twist at the end that has little real consequence. That’s fine in itself, but it still feels like the story had potential for much more depth.

I found myself wanting to know more about the Ghost character, about several of the assassins and bounty hunters, and especially the background of the Katherine Brunt character. The ending is less of a conclusion and more of a blunt statement that this is not the end. It’s not subtle at all, but honestly, I do hope it leads to a sequel.

Josh Hartnett is a good fit here, and he plays the role well. Katee Sackhoff is perfect as someone who’s tough as nails. Charithra Chandran is an interesting choice too, though maybe a little too weak for the part—though that could be down to the writing.

For the most part, the effects work well during the first three quarters of the film, but then everything suddenly goes haywire, plunging into a psychedelic blood shower. It’s completely over the top and, in my opinion, unnecessarily stupid.

If you enjoy a good action movie with a desperate antihero fighting off wave after wave of random bad guys on a plane, this is the perfect pick for you. But if, like me, you enjoy a little more depth in the story, you might be left wanting more—even though it’s still pretty solid entertainment.
