Subservience doesn’t bring anything new to the table in terms of story—it’s been seen many times before—but the buildup, the mood, and the way your emotions get tangled into the plot are very impressive. Unfortunately, the final release of all that intensity is a flop. It felt weak and rushed, almost like a school paper written just before the deadline, and it left me unsatisfied. That alone cost the movie one, maybe even two points in my rating.

Megan Fox, however, blew me away as Alice. I’ll admit I was prejudiced, assuming she was just a pretty face on a smoking hot body, but she is super convincing as an android slowly gaining self-awareness. She’s the perfect combination of seductive and terrifying, and I was genuinely impressed with her performance.

The effects related to the robots are mostly well done, but in the rushed ending it’s as if they threw all realism out the window and went full tilt crazy just for the sake of a scary effect—a real shame given the careful buildup earlier.

If you’re into or even scared of artificial intelligence and robots, this is a solid pick. And if you’re into Megan Fox, then this is definitely something you’ll want to see!
