Very impressive sci-fi movie! I have never been a Star Trek fan, and to be honest, this movie might have been the first serious Star Trek experience, that I have had, but it was good! The plot was good - classic simple sci-fi - and kept you interested throughout the move. As Peter wrote, the reason for the bad guys to become bad guys is a bit thin, but on the other hand, who fully understands the culture of an entirely different species? The acting was good, in fact great for a sci-fi movie! I had a hard time not referring to Spock as Sylar (from the TV-series Heroes) and shouting at Capt. Kirk "Watch out! He is right behind you!". However, Zachary Quinto is a fantastic actor, albeit a bit scary! The special effects were impressive and the movie is quite pleasing both visually and sound-wise. I especially enjoyed the sound the space ships make, when they jump to Warp Speed. I would highly recommend this movie to any sci-fi fan and it is my guess, that hardcore Star Trek fans might also like. |

YEAH! Best modern sci-fi in a long time. I'm not a trek fan, but I saw Star Trek 2, for good measures before seeing this one, and it kind of paid of, 'cause you felt you knew the young crew a bit. Maybe like getting a new friend while your'e a grown up, and then get to know how his youth was. Well any way, the villains are kind of goofy and there reason for being 3vil are kind of lame. The worst thing in the movie is that some times they also introduce slam stick humor, and as I wrote for Star Trek 2, it's good that the series doesn't take it self to serious, but that's a balancing act that has to hard to do. How much fun fun and how much seriousness. Well any way, I just hope Terminator Salvation and Transformers 2 will be just as good. |
