Movie reviews for The Other Boleyn Girl

Interesting history based movie.

Normally this type of movie is not my style, but due to a combination of factors including the cast, high level of details and recommendations from my wife, I saw it anyway. And I have to admit, that is was not all bad.

The pace of the plot was slow and very classic for these movies/novels based on English history. For the most part you have an idea of what is going to happen, but it is still solid.

I have always seen Eric Bana as more of a Gerad Butler type, but in this movie he shows that his acting can reach a bit further.
Natalie Portman is perfect as the overly intriguing sister. That role really seems to fit her quite nicely.
Scarlet Johannson is pretty as ever, but in this movie her usual sexy look has been toned down to a regular beautiful girl. Though I normally find her very hot, I also enjoyed seeing her playing this part. It leaves room to show off her talent instead of only her well proportioned body.

The level of details for making this feel like it was actually filmed in the 1500s is quite impressive. The costumes are extreme and you get a sense of the Royal English Court being somewhat infinite in size. Brilliant stuff.

If you are interested in English history, I would recommend this. As the romance in the movie is somewhat tainted and messed up, I would not recommend it as a date-movie.
